sudo mysqldump -uroot -pVIKIYAPASS YOUR_DATABASE_NAME | gzip > /path/to/yourDatabase_`date ‘+%Y-%m-%d’`.sql.gz

Please note that the command date +%Y-%m-d should work even by typing it on the console.
